The End is the Beginning

Book Notes - The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others

A Society with Perspective Chapter 18
our view of heaven gives us a perspective on life

our vacaction of choice, so I've heard, corresponds to our view of heaven

eternal standing matters a great deal to Jesus, and he talks about it quite often

what matters is that the eternal state is one of fellowship in the love of God and love of others

anything established around Jesus, whether earthly or eternal, will be a society

the end is the beginning. That is, one's view of the eternal (the end) gives one perspective in this life (our beginning each day)

practice now what you'll have to put into practice then

we are to live the Jesus Creed now because it is the eternal plan of God

christians sometimes read the Bible too often to "figure things out," to come to terms with a theological debate, or to settle an old score. They read it for information

in reading the Bible for knowledge, we can (and often do) miss the mission: for Abba to love us and for us to love Abba.

put away the study aids, commentaries, group Bible-study materials; get out a piece of paper and a pen and write down what we learn about God in a passage of Scripture

we are challenged to make fellowship with Jesus' society a regular feature of our lives - in the now. In fellowship with others we can begin our eternity.
